Julia Roberts Ad Banned
L'Oreal ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington have been pulled from circulation in the United Kingdom "for being overly-airbrushed."
The decision was made after Jo Swinson, a Liberal Democrat member of Parliament "who has waged a long-running campaign against 'overly perfected and unrealistic images' of women in adverts, lodged complaints with the Advertising Standards Authority" about the images.
The ASA ruled the ads "breached the advertising standards code for exaggeration and being misleading and banned them from future publication."

Tropical Storm Don Update
Tropical Storm Don, this year's first major Gulf of Mexico storm, formed over the southern part of the oil-rich basin on Wednesday on a track toward the Texas coast.
The storm forced several offshore energy operators to evacuate support workers, but was not yet strong enough to cause companies to shut in production.
Shell Oil Co, Apache Corp, Anadarko Petroleum Corp said they were evacuating support workers primarily from western Gulf operations. BHP Billiton and BP Plc were evacuating support workers from central Gulf platforms.
The storm was expected to move through the southern and central Gulf through Thursday and approach the Texas coast, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
That path would take it near oil and gas operations in the western and west-central part of the Gulf, largely avoiding the biggest concentrations of production platforms south of New Orleans, but near several coastal refineries.
"If the weather continues to move toward our facilities, we are prepared to remove additional personnel and shut in production at that time," Anadarko said.
Oil traders were watching the storm develop, but said it was not yet having an impact on U.S. prices, which fell more than $2 a barrel on Wednesday due to a rise in crude oil stocks and weak economic data.
Wholesale gasoline differentials on the well-supplied Gulf Coast gained a penny per gallon, but traders said upsets at refineries in the region could have as much influence on prices as the storm.
"A move to the North or Northwest could prompt precautionary shut-ins of offshore production facilities, depending on its intensity, although it will need to strengthen rapidly to pose any threat to facilities," JP Morgan analyst Lawrence Eagles said in a note.
Other producers, including BP Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp, Chevron Corp and Mexico's state oil company Pemex said they were monitoring the storm.
The Gulf accounts for 29 percent of U.S. oil production and 13 percent of natural gas output, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. About 30 percent of U.S. natural gas processing plant capacity also lines the Gulf Coast, the EIA said.
Refiners along the Gulf Coast, home to 40 percent of the nation's refining capacity, were also watching the system.
The storm is being closely watched by the global insurance industry, which is on track for its worst year ever. Insurers and reinsurers have already lost more than $60 billion in 2011 on natural disasters, and a major U.S. hurricane landfall could become a market-changing event, letting insurance companies raise prices across the board after years of declines.
Those possibly facing the biggest short-term hit include domestic insurers such as Travelers, Allstate and Chubb - all of which have suffered huge tornado losses this year as well as reinsurers including Berkshire Hathaway
The NHC said the system was about 755 miles east of Corpus Christi, Texas, and moving toward the west-northwest at nearly 12 miles per hour (19 km/h).
The Texas coastal bend is the most heavily irrigated cotton area of the state. The crop's harvest is set to start in early August. A storm could damage the state's cotton production at a time when large parts of Texas have been baked by drought.

NASCAR Prayer by Pastor Joe Nelms: Smokin Hot Wife, Goodyear Tires, Boogity Amen!
Baptist Pastor Joe Nelms lead the prayer during Saturday's Nationwide Federated Auto Parts 300 NASCAR race in Nashville, Tennessee.
He began his prayer as one might expect any Pastor to begin a benediction, "Heavenly Father we thank you tonight for all your blessings," but then the prayer took a turn for the abnormal. "We want to thank you this night for these mighty machines that you've brought before us. Thank you for the Dodges and the Toyotas and thank you for the Fords."
Nelms went on to thank his Heavenly Father for, among other things, "Goodyear tires that bring performance and power to the track," and Sunoco for its racing fuel.
Yet, the prayer didn't end there. The Pastor made sure to also thank God for his family, starting with, "my smokin' hot wife ... Lisa," and don't forget, "my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call the, 'The Little E's.'"
Nelms ended the prayer with a bang, shouting, "Boogity, boogity, boogity. Amen!"

Nelms, who became an overnight internet sensation because of the said invocation, also received a negative attention from those who witnessed the event. But the Pastor stood by his actions.
In an interview on Sirius Satellite's radio show "Tradin' Paint," Nelms defended the invocation he gave:
"I don't want to do the cookie-cutter prayer. Not that we don't need to thank God for our military men and women … not that we don't desire safety for all of the of the officials, workers and drivers, we certainly don't want anything to happen to anybody out there. We need a safe race. But it's the same prayer week in and week out and I'm not sure anybody is even listening to it anymore. So I said, I want to get somebody's attention, so that's been our desire every time we've been up there, to try to make an impact on the fans and give them something they'll remember and maybe they'll go home on a Friday night or a Saturday night and say, 'Maybe I ought to get up and go to church in the morning.'" Nelms said.

CHED and DepED Declare Suspension of Classes
Manila, Philippines – Executive Secretary Atty. Paquito "Jojo" Ochoa, Jr. has declared the suspension of classes at the tertiary level in Metro Manila on Wednesday, due to tropical storm "Juaning."
Ochoa's decision was based on the recommendation of the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Presidential spokesman Edwin Laciera made the announcement through his Twitter account, @dawende.
The Department of Education (DepEd) earlier suspended classes on Wednesday in pre-school, elementary, and high school in Metro Manila and other areas affected by the storm.
The Palace and DepEd orders mean that classes in all levels are suspended Wednesday in the National Capital Region.
Students and parents were waiting for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to issue a statement for universities and colleges.
Under CHED Memorandum Order 19, Series of 2005, classes in colleges and universities are automatically suspended when an area is under storm signal number 3.
The CHED order said the authority to suspend classes falls on heads of universities and colleges if either signal number 2 or 1 is hoisted over an area.

Action-Packed Tale of Espionage in “Cars 2”
International espionage. Global racing. Friendship. Each theme was to play a role in Disney/Pixar's new animated adventure “Cars 2,” and co-director Brad Lewis, screenwriter Ben Queen and the Pixar story team, were charged with finding just the right mix for the story.
In the film, star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend, the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy), jump-start a new adventure to exotic new lands stretching across the globe.
The duo are joined by a hometown pit crew from Radiator Springs when they head overseas to support Lightning as he competes in the first-ever World Grand Prix, a race created to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the finish line is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and bombshells when Mater is mistakenly ensnared in an intriguing escapade of his own: international espionage.
Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and “towing” the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning rookie field spy Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan, Italy, France and England, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. The fast-paced fun includes a colorful new cast of cars, boats, trains and airplanes — complete with menacing villains and international racing competitors.
“This is not a parody of a spy movie,” says co-director John Lasseter. “This is a spy movie, but with cars as characters. It’s a different genre that gives us an opportunity to play with so many gadgets. The little boy in me came out in this movie more than any other movie. Let’s have fun with this world. Let’s have fun with these gadgets.”
Says Queen, “When you see that opening sequence with Finn McMissile, it’s played totally straight and serious, with real jeopardy in the scene. And then the very next scene is in Radiator Springs, and it plays as comedy. What works beautifully is that the juxtaposition of those two things immediately sets up the tone of the movie. It’s a spy thriller, but with emotion and comedic undertones. For the rest of the movie, we thrust you into this mile-a-minute story and genre.”
For Queen, who had coincidentally written and produced a television series for Fox called “Drive” about an illegal cross-country road race with characters that were externalized by their cars, “Cars 2” was his first writing assignment for animation. “The first ‘Cars’ movie solidified the friendship between Mater and Lightning, which was something that audiences really related to,” says Queen. “What we wanted to do was take that out of Radiator Springs and put it into an environment where they were both fish out of water. It’s a real test of the strength of this relationship.”
“We came to the conclusion that their friendship is really the crux of the movie,” says story supervisor Nathan Stanton. “We figured it’s about four or five years after the first movie, so Lightning and Mater’s bond is firmly established. Here you have this very well-known, famous racecar, whose best friend is sheltered and naive to the world outside of his small town. While they’re best friends in the safety net of Radiator Springs, that friendship hasn’t truly been tested yet. We loved the idea of exploring what happens when there’s a fracture of their friendship.”
Lewis recalls, “I think from the very beginning, people were excited about the movie. But they were wondering, ‘Can you really pull all that off? Can you have a large-scale international-spy and conspiracy movie that’s also a racing movie? We bit off a huge story, and the fantastic thing is that everyone at Pixar poured their heart and soul into making it. And I think the result is one of the most beautiful films that’s ever been made.”
Opening across the Philippines August 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular format, “Cars 2” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures.

MEL GIBSON CONFRONTS HIS DEMONS IN “THE BEAVER”
Oscar-winner and controversial actor Mel Gibson stars in Summit Entertainment's “The Beaver” – an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. The critically acclaimed film will be shown exclusively at Ayala Mall Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3 and Trinoma) starting August 10.
Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black (Gibson) was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.
Producer Steve Golin knew that it would take a star to play Walter, not just because of the depth and complexity of the role, which could be a tour de force for any actor, but for logistical reasons as well. “These kinds of pictures that fall beyond the realm of conventional storytelling are very, very difficult to get going,” Golin says. “They’re difficult to get made even with stars but almost impossible without them.”
Director (and co-star) Jodie Foster sent the screenplay to Mel Gibson, hoping he'd take on the role of Walter. Foster was very much aware of what a terrific actor Gibson is, and knew that he had a great comic sense. “Walter Black and the beaver had to be somebody who could fully understand and communicate comedy and tragedy at the same time,” says Foster. “I’ve been friends with Mel for over 15 years and we’ve had many, many long discussions about life and so it was a natural place to go.”
“Jodie called me up and asked if I would help her out,” shares Gibson. “And of course, I love her to death and I wanted to work with her again and I liked the material so off we went.”
Walter finds the beaver puppet in a dumpster outside a liquor store where he usually tanks up on booze and winds up wearing it on his left arm. Emerging from what had seemed like a terminal stupor, he begins speaking through the hand puppet, at first to himself, then to everyone else. Through the beaver, Walter begins to turn his life around. He reconnects with his family, and revives the fortunes of his ailing toy company. But it all comes at a price.
“I thought casting Mel Gibson was a great idea but a long shot,” Golin says, ‘because Mel hadn’t done this kind of film before. But Jodie submitted the script, and two or three days later he told her he wanted to do it. And at first I thought he was kidding, it was just one of those things I didn’t think was possible.”
But it was. In fact, it was a perfect match.
Foster says, “He’s such a talented actor. I feel amazingly blessed to have somebody like that who really took on the character, brought so much to it and no muss, no fuss. You know, he came in and it was two takes he left. That’s who Mel is. I think probably the most light of foot actor I’ve ever worked with in some ways.”
“Gibson has this unusual ability to be really funny in a serious situation,’ Golin says, “and he has a tremendous amount of energy as an actor. I think that’s important because, despite its comic elements, the nature of the script is dramatic and dark. But I think the humor he brings is a perfect balance.”
Because of her deep connection to the material Foster realized that she wanted to play the role of Meredith, Walter's wife. She was, however, unsure of Mel’s reaction. So she went in person to his house to break the news and see if he was comfortable with it. Gibson was delighted.
“It’s always great,” he says. “I worked with her once before and I really dug it. She’s always in, she’s always on the phone, even if you don’t talk to her very often, she’s always there if you need a friend. So I was happy to work closely with her again.”

Emma Stone Ready for Something Wild in “Crazy, Stupid, Love”
Honesty was never the best policy for serial ladies' man Jacob (Ryan Gosling), until he meets Hannah, played by Emma Stone in Warner Bros.' new, delightful romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Unlike all other women, she is somehow immune to his charm and his best pick-up lines, and has no trouble resisting Jacob’s full court press…for a while, anyway.
“She is studying for the bar exam and has a boyfriend, Richard, who’s also a lawyer,” describes Emma Stone. Multi-platinum-selling recording artist Josh Groban makes his feature film acting debut as Richard.
“But,” Stone acknowledges, “as a suitor, Richard is kind of boring, and Hannah’s approaching a crossroads in her life, trying to figure out whether to stay with the safe guy or go a little wild. She does see that Richard’s very sweet, and that there are probably a lot of girls who would be all about Richard.”
Even as she’s hoping for something more with him, Hannah’s realizing that she is indeed perhaps a little wilder than she’s really allowed herself to be, that maybe she’s too young to settle for someone so…settled.
“It’s possible that she needs someone a little spicier—and if you’re looking for spice, Jacob’s got it. He’s the whole rack,” Stone laughs.
“Emma is one in a million,” producer Denise Di Novi states. “She brought so much energy and curiosity and intelligence to Hannah, and those are precisely the qualities which spark Jacob’s feelings for the character.”
“They just have some kind of unavoidable chemistry, even though she tries hard to avoid him,” Stone adds. “Of course, every girl has had some flutters for the Jacob-type at least once in her life, so Hannah figures, ‘What harm is there in indulging that, just once?’”
And what was it like working with Ryan Gosling? Answers Stone, “I want to work with him in every movie. [Laughs] I’m very fond of him. What a find! That was such a discovery in my own life. I feel like I’m so appreciative of meeting Ryan. We had so much fun together.
“Glenn [Ficarra] and John [Requa], the directors, were really open and incredible. They let us explore and do a lot of improv and find things in each other on camera and off. It was a really incredible work environment just because the lines were kind of blurred. It was just so much fun between takes and we were able to hopefully keep that alive in the movie.”
Emma Stone is one of Hollywood’s most sought-out young actresses, having garnered both critical and audience acclaim for her starring role as Olive in Will Gluck’s comedy “Easy A.” Her performance also earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, as well as an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance and a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star Award. She can be seen next month in director Gluck’s “Friends with Benefits,” alongside Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, followed by “The Help,” an adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s New York Times best-selling novel. She will also appear as Gwen Stacy in director Marc Webb’s highly anticipated “The Amazing Spider-Man,” opposite Andrew Garfield in the title role.
Opening across the Philippines on August 17, “Crazy, Stupid Love” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
