Antilia is the most expensive house in the world, and understandably so. But this news certainly got us by our nose: A luxury penthouse apartment of no more than 1,000 sq m is on sale for nearly Rmb300 million, that's abpout 6.2 millions in dollar. And what pray we ask the justification point is? Surprisingly its not just the historic location -- it's right next to the Diaoyutai State Guest House, the official compound in western Beijing where Madame Mao and the other members of the ultra-leftist established their headquarters for Cultural Revolution (1966-1976)-- that you pay such an exorbitant price for, but also the furnishings, the layout and the subtle details, which includes a carpark. And this in times when the Chinese givernment is encouraging austerity, at least in the property market.
